Boost your immune system

With winter fast approaching it’s time to get yourself in good shape to defend yourself against all the coughs, colds and other nasties that are bound to start circulating at school and work…Here are a few natural things you can try to really get your immune system in tip-top shape:

Citrus

Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, mandarins, grapefruits and limes give you a great hit of vitamin C, which is a big booster for the immune system.

Tumeric

The active ingredient in tumeric is called curcumin. Curcumin is an anti-oxidant and contributes to good digestion, so has an all round positive effect on general health.

Carrot

Carrots are full of Vitamin A, which is a big supporter of the immune system and helps to improve night vision (just like your mum says, they really do help you to see in the dark!)

Ginger

Ginger has immune boosting and antioxidant properties, so is again a great all rounder.

Garlic

Garlic is a warrior for the immune system, and seems to support the body’s response to bugs. It also contains an ingredient called allicin, which helps keep your vascular system (heart and blood vessels) in good nick. As an added benefit, it will keep away vampires (but also perhaps suitors).

Honey

Honey has antibacterial properties so helps in the fight against bugs. It’s also absolutely delish, and doesn’t smell like garlic.

If you can manage to accommodate just one of two of these powerful ingredients in your daily food intake, you’ll be a healthier bean all round this year. #beatthesneeze
