BTS (Bangtan Seonyeondan) shut down the 2017 American Music Awards this past weekend with their first ever televised US performance. They came on air only moments before Diana Ross closed the show. The group comprising of Jin, J-Hope, Rap Monster, Suga, Jimin, V, and Jungkook performed their hit single DNA. They performed in front of a colour-changing backdrop, donning colorful jackets while performing a series of fun and intricate dance moves.
Fans in attendance were spotted enjoying the show, dancing, singing along with every word, and tearing up at the momentous occasion. Even Ansel Elgort was spotted enjoying the performance and taking a photo of the performance, which he later posted to Twitter. BTS received a standing ovation and praise from presenter Jared Leto. Many fans in the crowd and at home admitted to shedding a tear at one point in the performance.
The K-Pop band broke through the mainstream music world’s conscious last May after taking home the Top Social Artist award at the Billboard Music Awards. It’s been a long run for the boy band as they have pushed into the U.S. scene at a time when Korean music in general has seen major growing interest in the States. They are the leaders of this push, having sold out a multi-city arena tour earlier this year as part of their 40-show global 2017 BTS Live Trilogy Episode III: The Wings Tour.
