Austin Jones (24) was reportedly arrested on Monday night, at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, on child pornography charges. The YouTube star has a following of more than 500,000 for his acapella pop music covers; with his videos have amassing over 25 million views. In 2014 Austin released his EP titled We’ll Fall Together.
Not only is he being charged for possession of child pornography, he is being charged for the production of child pornography. Austin asked two underage girls to prove their fandom by sending him sexually explicit videos of themselves by means of Facebook and iMessage. His alleged victims are 14-years old and 15-years old. In the police affidavit, Austin admits that he directed the girls on what to do and what to wear in the videos. He was fully aware of their ages and even asked them to announce their age before the video began.
Austin will appear in court for a detention hearing this morning. He will be remaining in federal custody because Austin has been declared a risk to the community and also a flee-risk. If he is convicted on the charges, Austin will remain a minimum of 15 years in prison.
This is not the first time that the YouTube sensation has been accused of soliciting videos from girls on Facebook. Previously, he had asked them to send videos of themselves ‘twerking’. It is not clear whether Austin received any legal backlash from this incident. A petition circulated asking Jones be removed from the 2015 Vans Warped Tour lineup over the accusations received nearly 10,000 signatures.
