DJ Wags Wins 5FM’s Ultimix@6 Ultimate Competition

After 31 days of intense on-air competition, hundreds of submissions and plenty of passionate feedback from 5FM’s listeners, DJ Wags has been announced as the winner of 5FM’s first ever Ultimix@6 competition.

Cape Town-born, Joburg-based DJ Wags (whose real name is Adam Wagenheim) beat out the nearly 500 hopefuls to win a spot as resident Ultimix@6 DJ on the station’s popular Fresh Drive show.

DJ Fresh, who is well known in dance music circles for nurturing up-and-coming DJ talent says: “The Ultimix@6 is the biggest feature on 5FM. Winning a slot or residency to play on there can only do wonders for your DJ career.”

In addition to winning a one-month on-air residency on The Fresh Drive, Wags also wins DJing equipment from Soul Candi Records as well as the chance to play opposite Ultimix@6 DJs Dino Bravo, Kent as well as 5FM’s own Euphonik and Fresh at the three Ultimix@6 Vol. 2 album launch parties in Durban, Cape Town and Joburg this November.

Says an excited DJ Wags, who also plays regularly at Clapham Gold in Fourways, “I have been DJing for almost 10 years and it has been a passion of mine since high school. I draw huge inspiration from the Ultimix@6 and try every evening at 6pm to be in the car so I can hear the mix. I’m at the stage in my career now where I want to take things to the next level and being an Ultimix@6 resident will definitely help me do that. I’m looking forward to the tour and can’t wait to entertain South Africa.”

The three Ultimix@6 parties will be held in November at these destinations around SA:

  • uShaka Marine World in Durban on Friday, November 4
  • Trinity in Cape Town on Friday, November 11
  • Carfax on Carr Street in Joburg on Friday, November 18

Tickets to the parties are available through Computicket.

Listen to the Ultimix@6 on The Fresh Drive, weekdays between 3pm and 7pm. For more information visit www.facebook.com/ThePowerof5FM and @5FM on Twitter.
