Nikita Coetzee had the opportunity to spend some time with Lee-Roy, and find out exactly what he is all about.
Give me three words that describe Lee-Roy.
Fun. Daring. Energetic.
Complete the sentence: life is incomplete without…
My Blackberry, my family and my animals.
Do you actually want to know? I’ve honestly got a little petting zoo at home. I have got ducks, 40 birds in an aviary, two dogs, fish and chickens.
Tell us about your debut single.
The opportunity came my way. I went into David Gresham records and I recorded the demo for Ring the alarm. It sounded really good, so they presented it to the boss, David Gresham. He loved it and literally the following week I had my contract. It’s a full-on album deal – I have released the first single and the album is due for release later this year.

What was it like the first time you heard your song on the radio?
I was in my car, and I turned the volume up, I said, “I know that song… wow that’s me”. Hearing that first song on the radio was amazing!
How do you deal with pressure?
Pressure comes my way a lot, for example, I do CRAZe on ETV, 94.7 Highveld stereo, a DJ on UJ FM on weekends, and I’m a student, so there’s a lot on my plate. It’s all about time management.
What is your worst habit?
I sometimes bite my nails. And I’m really trying to stop, but I don’t think I will [laughing].
What would you do today, if you knew that the world was ending tomorrow?
I’d spend the day with my family. Make a new memory, and end off with a good memory.
