ZendayaSpider Man: Homecoming hit cinemas earlier this month. Zendaya acts as Peter Parker’s girlfriend Mary Jane Watson. Although Zendaya is always a big deal, we’ve decided to take this moment to enlighten you about the star.  Zendaya officially turns 21 on 1 September this year but just before she does, here are 20 facts you didn’t know about her. 

  1. Zendaya has African-American, German and Scottish ancestry.
  2. Her nickname is Daya.
  3. When she is in trouble her parents will call her by her middle name, Marie. 
  4. She began dancing at just eight-years-old and went on to be a member of hip hop dance troop, Future Shock Oakland.
  5. She was once a backup dancer for Selena Gomez in a Sears advertisement.
  6. In 2013, Zendaya released her debut book, entitled Between U and Me: How to Rock Your Tween Years with Style and Confidence.
  7. She does not like syrup on her pancakes. She just takes them with butter.
  8. She has never dyed her hair before.
  9. There was a period in her life that she dressed like Michael Jackson.
  10. She wasn’t allowed to date until the age of 16.
  11. Her very first acting gig was in James and the Giant Peach
