Have brains? Want to take part in a Science Expo in Durbs?

Young scientists are invited to enter a science project in the 2012 ‘FFS Expo for Young Scientists’. There are 41 categories covering a broad spectrum of scientific fields, for example: energy innovations, electronics and robotics, agricultural science, mathematics, statistics and microbiology.

Gareth Davies and Neo Sukude, both in Grade 9 at Thomas More College, dissect a long bone of an animal.

The closing date for entries is 30 June, but late entries will be accepted under exceptional conditions until 6 July. The expo takes place at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Westville Campus, on 19 and 20 July.

You will get to showcase your projects and compete for prestigious medals and valuable prizes. The best entries are invited to participate in a tour to a number of sites of scientific interest. All participants will receive a certificate to show that he or she has taken part in the expo.

The expo is open to learners from Grades 8 to 12.

For detailed information on the expo, and an entry form, go to: www.ffs-refiners.com and click on Science Expo. For more information, science teachers should contact Bice Martincigh at email: martinci@ukzn.ac.za
