20th April 2018, Johannesburg – Last night singer-songwriter, Josh Kempen was nominated for a South African Music Award (SAMA) for his latest album The Morning Show.
Josh Kempen’s The Morning Show was nominated for Best Alternative Album.
Josh Kempen, had this to say, “What! I just got my first South African Music Awards nomination for best alternative album . Congratulations to everyone who made the Morning Show what it is: Saul Nossel, Noah Bamberger, Warner Music South Africa, Jean Michel Wickli, Jacques Du Plessis , Dave Grevler , Jacob van D’ee Westhuizen, Charlie Kanter and Dolph .”
Recorded at High Seas in Johannesburg in September of 2016, and produced by Josh alongside Jacques Du Plessis and David Grevler, The Morning Show is a bold declaration by one of South Africa’s bright new singer-songwriters. At times introspective, then celebratory, the album is independent, both in sound and thought and gives us a glimpse of an artist who is extremely confident in his voice and musical direction.
The album was heralded by the Top 20 iTunes singles, ‘The River’ and ‘Pistol’, both of which have a home on the album. Excitingly “Pistol” is un-shackled of its radio friendly sound allowing it swing loose here, just as it does in a live setting.
