Joshua Rush

Joshua Rush is a young actor who has achieved great things in his entire 15 years of life on earth (there’s a reason we’re being dramatic). He voices in a variety of animations, such as: The Cleveland Show, Family Guy, Ice Age: Mammoth Christmas, Mr Peabody and Sherman and Escape from Planet Earth. He is also currently lending his voice to following animations:  Star Vs The Forces of Evil, Toby, The Adventures of Puss in Boots, Clarence and on The Lion King sequel series, The Lion Guard. Wow, that’s a list and a half but one we had to share just to show you the magnitude of Joshua Rush‘s talent. Here is all you need to know about Joshua, what he is currently working on AND also what to expect from him in the future!

When did you first notice that you had a passion for acting?

Frankly, it was my mom who noticed it first. She noticed from a really young age that I loved to be in front of the camera — I was a serious ham — and she was the one who really got me my first agent and my first coach.

What are some of the challenges that you have faced as a young actor and how have you dealt with those challenges?

Something that I’ve always said is “you have to be a little adult.” Not a mature kid, but basically just a short adult with a baby face. Anything and everything you say is watched, and no matter where you are, you’re judged. It’s hard. It really is. But you get used to it, and it’s still super fun.

You’re one of the leads in Disney Channel’s new series “Andi Mack”. What was the audition process like for the show? What did you do when you found out you got the role of Cyrus?

Well, the audition process started off with an audition where I received some of the script (‘sides’ is the official term), and had to memorize it and audition in front of a casting director and Terri Minsky herself. Then came two callbacks with new sides for each, and then lastly was a network read in front of Disney executives! When I found out I had booked the role, I went out with my parents for a HUGE steak dinner!

What have you learned from working on “Andi Mack”?

I’ve learned a lot from Andi Mack. It is my first ever series regular role, even though I’ve been working for almost 10 years, and it taught me a lot about how important a good scheduler is, and how to work in a close-knit team. It was so fun!

What do you hope that people will take away from “Andi Mack”?

I want people to take away a real feeling of family, and a sense of the values of friendship. At its heart, it’s a show about friendship and family!

Which actor/actress do you look up to? How does that actor/actress motivate you to work harder in your chosen career?

I love Tina Fey! She is so cool and funny, and it’s always been my dream to work with her! Her sense of passion and hard work really inspires me a lot.

What advice do you have for all of your young fans who would also like to appear on the big screen someday?

It’s hard, but having the right people behind you makes it easier. Get an agent or manager and a coach who is behind you, and who will really help you put the right foot forwards. And always remember this: out of 100 auditions, sometimes you will only book one role. So don’t get discouraged if you don’t get a callback.

What role has social media played in your career so far? How do you like to interact with your fans online?

My social media is mainly under @JoshuaRush (Twitter, Instagram) and @TrueJoshuaRush (Snapchat and a few others). My Tumblr is persongoingfast.tumblr.com and my Facebook is /JoshuaRushOfficial. I do a few live streams once in a while on my Instagram, so your best chance at getting a response from me is there! In fact, I’m planning a live-stream before April 7 where we can all watch episode 1 of “Andi Mack” together and I’ll pause it once in a while to tell some stories from on-set!

What can your fans expect from you in the future?

In the future my fans can expect some awesome fun and some pretty big surprises in “Andi Mack”!
