Logic relives his emotional VMAs performance

Logic spoke to On Air With Ryan on Monday and spoke about his memorable performance on the 2017 MTV VMAs stage on Sunday. Logic, Alessia Cara and Khalid performed their powerful anthem “1-800-273-8555.” He shares that he was beyond nervous before he stepped onto the stage to perform alongside suicide attempt survivors and lifeline call workers:

“It was so crazy. It was really weird because I’d never done anything like [the VMAs] before … it was either like I’m going to mess it up or hopefully do a good job,” Logic, whose real name is Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, shared. “I was freaking out.”

After performing the track, Logic gave an empowering speech telling the crowd at the award show:

“Thank you all for giving me a platform to talk about something that mainstream media doesn’t want to talk about … I don’t care [what you are] I’m here to fight for your equality … we must fight for equality of every man, woman and child.”

Logic also took calls from fans on the radio show, including one woman who lost her son to suicide:

“It’s a very real thing,” Logic said. “It’s amazing to know that me and my team have put together a body of work … to know that we put this out of a place of just wanting to help others.”
