Melinda Bam (Miss SA) preparing for Miss Universe

The Miss Universe pageant will be held in Las Vegas on the 19th of December and our very own Miss South Africa Melinda Bam is ready to show the world what she is made of.

88 countries have entered into this tough competition. The contestants will be judged on swimsuits, interviews and evening gowns.

Taken from Channel24.co.za, here is a pic of the evening gown designed by Peter Bondesio. His inspiration came from mermaids with a splash of liquid satin and mesh and the sparkles and diamantes complete the fairytale theme.

A week prior to the pageant all the contestants wear a costume that represents their country, seen here (also via Channel24.co.za) is what Melinda will be wearing.

This dress was designed by Go Wild Designs and symbolises South Africa’s mineral wealth. The sceptre is made of Meranti wood with an 18 carat gold-plated Protea (our national flower) on it.

The crown is inspired by the South African Coat of Arms and to give the outfit a funky edge, the shoes were designed retro style.

Having spent time with Melinda at different functions, we know she is going to be one tough contestant. She is beautiful, charming, intelligent, relaxed and a lovely kind, caring person. We had the opportunity to listen to a speech she delivered to a bunch of young teenage girls – it was well planned, presented, motivational and a true inspiration. We wish Melinda all the best and know she will give it her all!
