23 Olympic Gold medalist Michael Phelps will be racing a Great White Shark for Discovery Channel’s ‘Shark Week’. Discovery Channel bosses announced that the retired 39 time world record-breaker will put his aquatic prowess to the test and will be racing one of the fastest predators on the planet.
The channel is calling the event “Great Gold vs. Great White” and it is set to air in July. It’s not clear how Phelps will be racing the shark. The event will occur in this year’s season-opening episode of their annual Shark Week programming schedule. The reality is that Phelps will likely be thrashed by the ancient predator but this probably won’t keep millions of viewers from tuning in.
Phelps had this to say about the event:
“That one was fun, doing some stuff with Shark Week and for me, sharks are like my number one favourite animal in the world, being able to see them face-to-face was pretty cool.”
