Ashlinn Gray and her American adventure

Teenzone previously interviewed Ashlinn Gray about her first single Nineteen; again last year about her new music and motivational talks, and now we’ve managed to get an interview based on her exciting new adventure! Ashlinn has been in America for only a couple of months now but has hit the ground running. We checked in to see how the South African songstress was doing in LA. As can be expected, Ashlinn is doing brilliantly and from what we can gather, be sure to expect some great things from her in the future:

What made you decide to make the move to America?

I’ve been wanting to grow my music in other territories and I was given opportunity to work with a team here in LA.

Were you not hesitant to leave your support structure behind?

Of course I was! Everyone I love is back home: my family, friends, fans… But in life you have to follow your heart.

Where about are you based?

I’m living in LA at the moment, but who knows where life will take me.

What have you been working on?

At the moment I’m working on building a following here as well as recording some new music that’s due to be released this year.

What has been your most memorable moment in America so far?

I got to be part of the Women’s March on the 20th of January. It was my first one, so definitely a highlight. There is something so special about coming together with people who want the world to be a better place and share the love. Also, the signs were so entertaining!

What can we expect from you in the near future?

My music is almost ready for release. I have also been working on collaborations with some cool people in the industry. It’ll go beyond music though.

Your Instagram is popping. How do you decide what to post on your social media accounts?

I’m loving colour at the moment so I’m posting photos that look like rainbow babies. I’m just letting everyone have a look into my life as I discover LA. It’s been fun sharing all my adventures.

As an outsider looking in, what’s your comment on the American music industry?

It’s just SA on a big scale. The risks are higher, the competition is bigger and the chances are smaller. But what’s better than a good challenge?

How have you adapted to living in a foreign country and how has it affected your music?

It’s been interesting. The funny thing is that LA looks a lot like South Africa but with palm trees. If anything, it’s added to my music. I’ve only been here for just over a month so I’m still getting settled and working on my music with people here. So far, it’s bringing a new vibe which I’m so excited to release.

Is music the only thing you have your eye on?

I’m focusing on music mostly, however acting is another love of mine and will definitely be a part of my life here.

What do you wish to achieve from your stay?

I’m hoping to share my music with more people and be able to work with some of the people I look up to. It’s all about growing what you have in order to get closer to your dreams and goals.

What is your message for fans back home in South Africa?

I love you all so much! I’m not gone forever, just taking a bit of an adventure in order to bring you more music. Keep being true to yourself and loving yourself.
