Top youth rugby tournament, Coca-Cola Craven Week, sees South Africa’s top U18 provincial rugby players, battle it out in an action-packed week of rugby. This year the tournament is taking place at Paarl Boys High from the 9th-14th of July.
Coca-Cola Craven week showcases the best of South African youth rugby talent and is a platform for both national and provincial scouts to identify South Africa’s future rugby heroes. Many of South Africa’s top rugby players have participated in the Coca-Cola Craven Weeks as a springboard to their professional careers including former World Cup winning captains John Smit and this year’s Hero of The Day Ambassador, Akona Ndungane.
Coca-Cola Hero of the Day
In 2014, Coca-Cola also introduced the Coca-Cola Hero of the Day initiative, a daily award that recognises and rewards standout players who embody the qualities of a hero. The Coca-Cola Hero of the Day is not necessarily the best player on the field, but the player that really stood out during the match. He could be the fullback who made that courageous try-saving tackle, the lock who intercepted the crucial lineout throw or even the kicker who slotted a 56-meter penalty to win the match.
To date, 20 players, including Springboks Curwin Bosch, Embrose Papier and Springbok Sevens player Mfundo Ndhlovu, have all been part of the daily heroes list.
Look out for the future heroes of South African rugby taking part at this year’s Coca-Cola Craven Week from 9-14 July 2018!
