Something huge happened on Disney Channel this week and it’s most definitely worth writing about. On Wednesday, it was announced that the show would feature a storyline centered on the coming out story of a young man.
The story arc of the character, Cyrus Goodman played by Joshua Rush, will be the Disney Channel’s first coming out story for any of their television shows. Cyrus’s coming out story will be the centerpiece of an episode titled “Hey, Who Wants Pizza?”
The storyline and the act of Cyrus discovery his own true sexuality is a landmark moment for Disney and it’s focus on Cyrus own self-discovery is what makes it so unique. Most fans of the show were loving this announcement and made it known on Twitter. It’s absolutely great to see, Disney Channel giving a special focus is given to a young person’s coming out story.
Disney Channel had this to say in a statement:
“Andi Mack is a story about ‘tweens’ figuring out who they are. [Creator] Terri Minsky, the cast and everyone involved in the show takes great care in ensuring that it’s appropriate for all audiences and sends a powerful message about inclusion and respect for humanity.”
