Girl Talk with Ashley Tisdale & Phineas & Ferb

We catch up with Ashley Tisdale to find out about her new animated movie, Phineas And Ferb: Across The 2nd Dimension…

How much fun do you have playing Candace in Phineas And Ferb?
It’s really fun voicing an animated character, and it’s a completely different world to live-action movies and TV shows. When I play Candace, it’s just me in the recording booth with a microphone and nothing else. It’s really cool.

How would you describe Candace?
Candace is the older sister to Phineas and Ferb. She’s crazy! She’s constantly trying to bust her brothers because she wants their mother to see what crazy stuff they’re doing in the back yard.

Is Candace anything like you?
I love playing quirky crazy characters like Candace because they are very different to me in real life. Candace is really out there and it’s a lot of fun to act as crazy as her in the sound booth – but I’m not crazy in real life. Honest!

Would you like Candace as an older sister?
No way! I would be scared if Candace was my older sister. She is way too high strung for me. When I was little, I used to try and get my sister into trouble a lot, so I guess that’s the only similarity between us. I think every character I play has a little piece of me in them, but that’s as far as the similarities go with Candace.

What’s the best thing about working in animation?
When you work in live action, you can spend hours getting ready – even if you’re only on screen for two minutes. It’s totally different with animation. There’s no hair and make-up, which is really nice. It’s also cool to be able to turn up to work in your pyjamas!

How would you describe the new movie?
Phineas And Ferb: Across The 2nd Dimension is an epic adventure where Phineas and Ferb head into the second dimension. It’s a movie filled with action, adventure – and lots of fun songs, too.

When was the last time you did something adventurous?
Everything I do on a daily basis is adventurous because being in the entertainment business is adventurous. Every day is an adventure for me because I never know what I’m going to be doing!

How long have you been playing Candace?
I’ve been working on Phineas And Ferb for five years now, but I’ve recorded her voice in many different places around the world. Three years ago, when I was on the concert tour for High School Musical, I would record Candace in various different cities as we traveled around the place. It wasn’t completely easy for me, but I loved it. I guess I love working really hard. I’m a workaholic at heart!

What can you tell us about the music of the movie?

There are a lot of great songs in the movie, but I don’t know too much about them. The only thing I can say is that Slash from Guns N’ Roses worked on the song for the end credits of the movie – and that’s a really, really good track!

What about you? What are your plans for the future?

Apart from my ongoing work on Phineas And Ferb, I’m looking at a couple of different projects right now. I spent last year working on a TV show, so I really want to branch out and work in movies next. Something like a comedy would be amazing, so I’m keeping my eyes open for the right comedy project to come along. Wish me luck!

Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension, premieres on Disney XD (DStv Channel 304) at
