Linkin Park lead singer, Chester Bennington, dies age 41

Chester Bennington, the lead singer of the legendary Linkin Park has passed away in an apparent suicide, at the age of 41. His screeching vocals helped the rock-rap band become one of the commercially successful acts in the 2000s. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office spokesperson, Brian Elias, said that they were investigating the death.

Bennington had a history of alcohol and drug abuse and had spoken openly about his struggles to overcome his demons. In 2011 he said that he had been sober for six years. He has in the past spoken about suicide as he was a victim of child abuse.

Bennington was also a close friend of Chris Cornell who committed suicide earlier this year. Bennington wrote a moving letter to Cornell after he passed describing how Cornell had “a pure and unrivalled talent” and ” inspired me in many ways you could never have known”. Yesterday would’ve been Cornell’s 53rd birthday.

“The Cornell family is overwhelmed by the heartbreaking news about Chester Bennington which tragically comes so soon after their family’s own loss,” said a Cornell family spokesperson.

“They open up their loving arms to Chester’s family and share in the sorrow with all those who loved him.”
