MoveToGive: Over 42 000 sanitary packs donated to change schoolgirls’ lives


During Women’s Month, Discovery Vitality partnered with Dis-Chem to empower schoolgirls through a special Vitality MoveToGive campaign.

“Vitality members were encouraged to get active during the month, reach their weekly Vitality Active Rewards goals, and choose to donate their reward to provide a sanitary pack to schoolgirls in need,” says Craig Nossel, Head of Vitality Wellness. “As part of Dis-Chem with StayFree’s commitment to the initiative, every pack donated through Vitality MoveToGive was doubled.”

The two-week campaign received overwhelming success with over 42 000 sanitary packs donated to the Caring4Girls programme, which will help improve the health and gender equality of schoolgirls living in disadvantaged areas.

“We are delighted to be involved with Discovery Vitality’s MoveToGive initiative in collecting sanitary towels for young girls in school,” says Lynette Salzman, Dis-Chem’s Managing Director. “This is a fantastic donation and ties in wonderfully with our annual Million Comforts campaign.”

“Keeping girls in school, their dignity, self-confidence and personal hygiene has been a priority of the Dis-Chem Foundation for many years. This donation will keep at least 6 000 girls in school for a year,” she says.

Gerry Elsdon, businesswoman and humanitarian activist representing Caring4Girls concludes, “Thank you for choosing us – by doing so, you have contributed towards changing the landscape for schoolgirls in this country.”

Vitality MoveToGive campaigns are intermittent campaigns that form part of Vitality Active Rewards. Vitality members who reach their weekly fitness goals can opt to donate their usual drink or snack reward towards a specific initiative aimed at making a positive social impact.
