If you’re like us, then you’re super excited for the long-awaited and much anticipated release of the new Mumford and Sons album “Delta”, their first album since “Wilder Mind” in 2015. The album is set to be released on the 16th of November 2018 (T Minus 33 days!) and is set to feature 14 new songs. The album marks 10 years since the band’s formation and according to frontman Marcus Mumford “draws on the shared experience of being on and off the road. It’s a moving collection of songs perhaps more intimate and expansive, both lyrically and musically, than ever before.”
Mumford and Sons announced their new album with the release of one of the songs off the album called “Guiding Light” on the 20th of September and we’re in love. The song is exactly what you would expect from the band, whilst still giving an indication of the albums fresh, new tone and maintaining the folksy Mumford essence that we have come to know and love, striking the perfect balance between old and new.
The guys believe that this album is going to take people by surprise in terms of the content. Whilst the album is a throwback to older days, bringing back the acoustic feel and Marshall’s Banjo, the music has been reworked through production effects, changing their tone and feel entirely. The album is also said to include elements of electronica, rap, jazz and other elements that have not yet been explored by the band. Marcus Mumford comments “It felt like there have been no boundaries creatively”.
Don’t let all these changes scare you, we have high expectations for the album after listening to “Guiding Light” and have been inspired by Winston Marshall’s feelings about how long it’s taken them to produce the album; “If you’re going to write an album of 10 songs, our attitude is that you need to write 30 and choose 10 [freaking] good ones. We could probably put out a not-so-good album right now, but it’s better to wait and put out a great one.”
