We all have bad days. Plenty of them. The trick is to accept that life isn’t always what you want it to be and that every bad experience can teach you something. On those days when you just can’t seem to shake that bad mood, there is, however, one thing that you can do that is proven to help. SMILE. Admittedly it won’t fix the problems or make them go away, but smiling naturally enhances your mood, whether that smile has arisen organically or not.
When you smile, feel-good brain chemicals are released (including dopamine, serotonin and other endorphins) and stress hormones are suppressed, which makes you feel naturally happier and more relaxed. Whether you are smiling for genuine reasons or not, when the muscles involved in the smile contract and come to life those same chemicals are released and suppressed. This means that the more you smile, whether you mean it or not, the better you feel! It’s like magic – get your smile on!
